What are veneers?

  • Veneers are thin shells, usually porcelain, sometimes high-quality composite, bonded to the front surface of your existing teeth.
  • They are custom designed to change the colour, shape, size or length of teeth.
  • Veneers are more durable and stain-resistant than just composite bonding, and ideal when a more comprehensive smile transformation is needed.

Benefits of veneers

  • Dramatic, immediate improvements to shape, alignment or colour of teeth.
  • Highly stain resistant, so maintain whiteness over time.
  • Long-lasting: with the right care, veneers can last 10–15 years or more.
  • Natural look: crafted to precisely match the contour, shade, and translucency of your remaining teeth.
  • Minimal maintenance: similar to your natural teeth, regular hygiene and dentist visits, avoiding very hard foods.

Who is a good candidate for veneers?

Veneers might be for you if you have;

  • Discoloured, stained or badly worn teeth that don’t respond well to whitening treatments.
  • Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or have gaps you’d like to close.
  • Chipped or broken teeth where cosmetic correction is more suitable than full restorative work.
  • A desire for long-term cosmetic improvement and are prepared for the procedure (including possible tooth preparation).

Before treatment, we’ll assess your oral health to ensure gums and adjacent teeth are healthy.

The veneers procedure at The Dental Cafe

  1. Consultation & planning: We’ll examine your teeth, take photos/scans, and discuss your aesthetic goals. If needed, teeth whitening may be done first, so veneers match your desired shade.
  2. Shade & design selection: Choosing the best material (porcelain or composite), shape & colour to blend naturally with your smile.
  3. Tooth preparation: Minor removal (“enamel shaving”) of the front surface of the tooth to make space for the veneer. This is irreversible.
  4. Impression / digital scan: We take impressions or digital scans so the veneers can be custom crafted in the dental lab.
  5. Temporary veneers (if needed): If your case requires, we place temporary veneers while the final ones are made.
  6. Fitting & bonding: Once the veneers are ready, we bond them to your tooth using strong dental cement, adjusting fit & appearance.
  7. Final finish & polish: Any final tweaks, polishing to ensure the veneers look seamless with your natural teeth.

Typically requires 2–3 visits, depending on whether temporary veneers are needed and how many teeth are involved.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do veneers last?+

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, porcelain veneers tend to last 10–15 years, sometimes more. Composite veneers may have a shorter lifespan and need refinishing or replacement sooner.

Does getting veneers hurt?+

Most patients experience minimal discomfort. Tooth preparation may require local anaesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable. After the procedure, you may have some sensitivity, but this usually resolves in days.

Can I whiten veneers?+

Natural teeth can be whitened, but the veneer material itself will not change shade. If whitening is desired, it’s best done before veneers are placed, so everything matches.

How do I care for veneers?+

Brush twice daily, floss, avoid excessive hard biting (ice, hard objects), minimise stain-inducing foods/drinks. Regular hygiene appointments at The Dental Cafe help maintain their appearance and integrity.

What’s the difference between veneers and composite bonding?+

  • Veneers are lab-manufactured shells and generally more durable and stain-resistant, but require more tooth preparation (irreversible).
  • Composite bonding is applied directly in the mouth, less invasive, more reversible, but may stain more and wear sooner.

How much do veneers cost in Liverpool?+

Cost depends on material (porcelain vs composite), number of teeth, complexity of the case, and preparation needed. Book a consultation to receive a personalised quote.
