What counts as a dental emergency?

If you’re in severe pain, have experienced dental trauma, or something just doesn’t feel right, it’s always best to get checked. A prompt response can prevent the issue from getting worse and help save your tooth.

Common dental emergencies include:

  • Toothache – persistent or throbbing pain
  • Broken or chipped tooth – from injury or biting down
  • Knocked-out tooth – time-sensitive, so don’t delay
  • Swelling or abscess – could indicate an infection
  • Lost filling, crown, or veneer – can expose the tooth to further damage

If you’re unsure whether your issue is an emergency, give us a call—our friendly team will advise you on the best next steps.

What happens at an emergency appointment?

  1. Initial assessment – We’ll listen to your concerns, examine the problem area, and may take an X-ray if needed.
  2. Immediate relief – Our priority is to ease any pain, swelling, or discomfort.
  3. Treatment options – We’ll explain the issue clearly and discuss your options, whether it’s a temporary fix or the start of a longer-term solution.

You’ll always leave knowing exactly what’s been done—and what comes next.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if I’ve knocked out a tooth?+

Try to handle it by the crown (the white part), not the root. If it’s clean, gently place it back in the socket. If that’s not possible, store it in milk and get to us as quickly as possible—ideally within 30 minutes.

Can I walk in for an emergency appointment?+

We recommend calling ahead so we can prepare and do our best to fit you in straight away. Same-day emergency appointments are usually available, but booking ensures faster care.

What if I’m in pain but not registered with your practice?+

You don’t need to be a registered patient to access emergency care—we’re here to help anyone in need. We’ll treat the immediate issue and give you the option to continue care with us if you wish.

How much does an emergency appointment cost?+

Our emergency consultations are just £59; however, any further treatment will be discussed clearly with full costs before we go ahead.

Will treatment be carried out on the same day?+

In most cases, yes. We aim to relieve your pain and stabilise the issue at your first appointment. If complex treatment is needed, we’ll schedule a follow-up and explain everything clearly.
